Northumbria is a really great place to visit in England as  it has a considerable history behind it. You can see how much of the past runs through this region and you will be quite surprised and the kind of ancient monuments that you can find here.

Most castles in Northumbria have some story or another to tell. This one is no different -  Chillingham Castle. This is a medieval castle located in Chillingham village. Until the 1980s it was owned by the Earls of Tankerville.  During the medieval period, this castle was repeatedly raided by the Scots as it had such a strategic location.

However, as relations between England and Scotland became normal, this castle was used by monarchs as a stay, during their visitors. Gradually all battlement features were reduced and in course of time, it came to include a banquet hall and even a library.

It was during the 180’s that the castle came into the ownership of Sir Humphry Wakefield, 2nd Baronet. He took over the work of restoration and his efforts resulted in a huge restoration of the entire place. Parts of the castle are open to the public for viewing and it is possible for people to rent apartments here.
